I started this project with a weathered piece of wood that had old epoxy spilled and hardened across one side. It looked like it had once been used as a work board — maybe to hold an epoxy can during another project — and over time it became covered in drips, runs, and resin build-up. The board was badly cupped and bowed, far from flat, but I could still see its potential. What caught my eye most were the three large knots, almost like features of a hidden face. To work with it, I had to cut the board into smaller sections so I could sand each piece flat and rebuild it into a new design. From there, it became a creative puzzle — finding the right arrangement, grain patterns, and balance to turn a warped, damaged, uneven board into a meaningful wall sculpture. Call of the Juniper Hound A handmade juniper wood art project I created this summer while taking care of my mom’s dog, Charlie Brown, while she was on vacation in Africa from late July to mid-August. It was fun having him around the outdoor work area "woodshop" — his energy definitely found its way into this piece. This wood wall art features flowing juniper waves carved around a hound-like form, surrounded by petal-like curves that bring the design to life. It’s a mix of natural art, wood sculpture, and creative woodworking — inspired by the bond between nature, craft, and a good dog’s spirit. Mirror maze wood art When I was a kid my Grandparents worked on the Carnival and owned a Cotton Candy wagon. My family and I would go and visit them in the summers every year. My Dad bought a fun house "The Mirror maze" in 1980. Good memories of going out to the carnival as a kid. I used to help my Grandparents in the Cotton Candy wagon and my Dad with the Mirror maze. I made this wood art piece for my Dad in 2023 and sent it to him for Father's day.
